|Gary Sadler - Sr. VP of Sales, Unique Vacations|
He started his career as a Playmaker at Sandals Ocho Rios and was then transferred to Canada in 1992 to assume the role of Sales Representative in Ontario for Sandals Resorts and was quickly given the opportunity to develop the Western Canadian market. This was the first time Sandals had had full-time representation in that part of the country. As a result, three major Canadian airlines now offer direct service to Jamaica.
Having conquered Western Canada, Sadler was promoted to Regional Director of Sales and Marketing, Unique Vacations for the north-east region of the U.S., the Caribbean’s largest tourism market. He directed a staff of ten sales representatives and all aspects of marketing for the region.
He returned to Canada in 1998 to accept a position of Director of Sales and Marketing – Canada for Unique Vacations. Under his leadership the Canadian sales operation grew to 25 with sales representatives across the country and a central reservations centre.
In July 2007, Sadler was promoted to the position of Vice President – Canada before returning to the U.S. in 2008 to head up sales efforts in the Americas.
Sadler is a member of SKAL, an international organization of tourism leaders promoting tourism and friendship. In addition, he sits on the Board of Directors for various organizations, including:
• Sandals Foundation - the philanthropic arm of Sandals Resorts International, which seeks to help fulfill the promise of the Caribbean community through investment in sustainable projects in education, environment and community which improve lives and preserve natural surroundings.
• JAMVAC - the government agency responsible for developing credible airlift to Jamaica.
• JAMPRO - an agency of the government of Jamaica’s Ministry of Economic Growth and Job Creation that promotes business opportunities in export and investment to the local and international private sector.
Sadler is also a founding member and Deputy Chairman of the Yellowbird Foundation of Canada, a Canadian travel industry organization dedicated to raising awareness and funds to improve the lives of children in the Caribbean and Latin America by supporting local education and school programs. The Yellowbird Foundation has provided 75 scholarships and has funded the renovations of schools and resource centres including The Flanker Peace and Justice Center, Campbell’s Castle Basic School, Culloden Early Childhood Institute, and Grenwich All Ages School.
Sadler’s philanthropic efforts took a personal turn when his youngest daughter, Courtney, was diagnosed with ALS Leukemia in 2014. Courtney is officially in remission thanks to her treatment at Sick Kids Hospital, Canada's most research-intensive hospital and the largest centre dedicated to improving children's health in the country. Yet Sadler’s fight continues with the creation of Courtney’s Quest, his charitable organization solely focused on raising money to support the Sick Kids Foundation. Courtney’s Quest has raised over $100,000 for the foundation this year alone, much of which will make its way to the SickKids-Caribbean Initiative. The SickKids-Caribbean Initiative is a key focus for the SickKids Centre for Global Child Health. The objective is to improve outcomes for children affected by cancers and serious blood disorders in the Caribbean.
Sadler’s passionate and relentless drive to promote his home nation of Jamaica was recognized in October 2017 when he was awarded the Honour of the Order of Distinction in the rank of Officer by Jamaica’s Prime Minister Andrew Holness at a ceremony held at King’s House in Kingston. Awarded to Sadler for his lengthy and continued contribution to Jamaica’s tourism and hotel industry, the coveted honour is conferred upon citizens of Jamaica who have rendered outstanding and important services to the country.
