|Erika Richter - Sr. Director of Communications, ASTA|
Erika Richter is the Senior Director of Communications for the American Society of Travel Advisors (ASTA), recently rebranded from the American Society of Travel Agents in 2018. ASTA is the leading global advocate for travel advisors, the travel industry and the traveling public. Its members represent 80 percent of all travel sold in the United States through the travel agency distribution channel.
In her role, Erika has been instrumental in crafting the “new” conversation about travel advisors in the media and she spearheads all of the Society’s consumer awareness initiatives. As a travel expert and spokeswoman, she’s often called-upon to weigh-in on the travel industry’s most pressing issues.
Building on the success of the association’s rebrand, in 2018 Erika also became the director of publishing and editor in chief of Travel Advisor, the official quarterly magazine for the American Society of Travel Advisors. Shortly after she launched the new magazine, Erika was recognized by Folio in their 2018 Class of Folio: 100 Honorees.
Erika began her Washington, D.C. career on Capitol Hill where she worked for former Congressman John D. Dingell (MI), Chairman Emeritus of the U.S. House Energy & Commerce Committee. She then went on to work as a campaign fundraising associate for many U.S. House Congressional races, spending time at Fraioli & Associates, a fundraising and political strategy firm, during the 2012 Presidential cycle. She tracked many miles on the campaign trail for a variety of local and state elections across the Midwest & Southwest thereafter. As a result, Erika is an experienced stakeholder strategist who was instrumental in helping over 23 election campaigns and grassroots initiatives. She is known for her strategic expertise and specializes in “winning messages".
Erika relocated from Washington, D.C. to Portland, Oregon in 2019.
